 Biography:

Canadian pianist Devon Joiner, 22, is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School under Julian Martin.   He recently completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia studying with renowned Canadian pianists Jane Coop and Robert Silverman.

Mr. Joiner has won many awards in National and International piano competitions including first place at the Knigge National Piano Competition and the Canadian Music Competition, 2nd prize in the Shean National Piano Competition as well as winning third prize in both the National Music Festival and the Seattle International Piano Competition.   He won the top prize at the 8th International Russian Music Piano Competition and his win in the Burnaby Clef Concerto Competition resulted in a performance with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Joiner was the youngest finalist in the UBC Concerto Competition and was chosen to play with the UBC Symphony Orchestra as well as being selected as an Artsway UBC Music Ambassador from 2008-2010.

As an active chamber musician, Mr. Joiner has collaborated with strings, winds and brass instruments as well as many vocalists and has been coached by Seymour Lipkin, Jonathan Feldman and Audrey Axinn.  He has performed in a piano trio on the fortepiano and recently performed a work for two pianos and electronics at the SEAMUS 2011 conference of electro-acoustic music in Miami.

Devon Joiner has performed many solo concerts including performances in the concert series of UBC, Temple Sholom, VWMS and the Vancouver Art Gallery.  He has participated in the Morningside Music Bridge summer music programs in Shanghai and Calgary and the National Arts Centre's 2009 Young Artists programme in Ottawa. During the summer of 2010, Mr. Joiner studied under Andrzej Jasinski and Robert Levin at the Mozarteum in Austria on a scholarship from the Strauss Foundation.  He is very honoured to be a recipient of awards from the Koerner Foundation, Hnatyshyn Foundation and BC Arts Council and the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation.
